Risk and Screening

Updated 17 Sep 2026

We tell you this before you swap, not after. Our guide explains what no KYC means and when checks happen.

Screening

  • We do not ask for ID to start a swap.
  • Every swap is screened automatically by our exchange partner. Addresses and transactions are checked against sanctions lists, such as the UN, EU, UK and US lists, and against blockchain risk data.
  • The exact checks are not published, so that they cannot be avoided.

When a swap is put on hold

A swap can be put on hold when:

  • screening flags the deposit,
  • there is a report of fraud or stolen coins,
  • the law requires a check.

The order page then says “On hold”. What happens next:

  1. Contact support with your order ID.
  2. You may be asked to verify your identity and where the coins came from, through a verification provider. For Monero, you may be asked for a spend proof. The verification link usually stays open for 3 days.
  3. When the check ends, the order page shows the result.

How a hold can end

  • Verified. The swap continues.
  • You decline. The coins are normally refunded to the address they came from, minus network fees, usually within 24 hours.
  • Signs of illegal activity. The coins stay frozen until the investigation ends and are released only as the authorities decide. The addresses involved may be blocked.

Where HiddenSwap is not available

You may not use HiddenSwap if you are in a sanctioned country or region, where crypto swaps are not allowed, or where our exchange partner does not offer its service. Where the law requires it, you may be asked to verify your identity. See the Terms.

Stolen coins

If your coins were stolen, report it to the police and email contact@hiddenswap.com with the transaction details. Coins linked to a theft report can be frozen, and they are returned only after an official request.

Risks of crypto swaps

  • Prices move. A floating rate can change until your deposit is confirmed.
  • Transactions are final. A blockchain transaction cannot be undone.
  • Wrong network or missing memo. Coins sent the wrong way can be lost, or recovered only for a fee.
  • Networks can be slow or expensive. Busy networks take longer, and fees can reduce what you receive.
  • Network changes. Forks and upgrades can delay swaps or affect coins.
  • Rules change. Crypto laws differ between countries and can change.
  • Technology can fail. Wallets, networks and websites can have outages or bugs.

Only swap what you can afford to lose, and check every detail before you send.

Protect yourself

  • Check that you are on the real HiddenSwap website before you send coins.
  • We never ask for your seed phrase, private keys or passwords.
  • Our only website is hiddenswap.com. We never contact you first, and we never move a support chat to another app or address. Report copies of our site to contact@hiddenswap.com.
  • We never ask for a payment to release a normal swap. The only extra charge is the recovery fee described in the Terms, for deposits sent the wrong way, and we only confirm it from contact@hiddenswap.com.
