EU rules for Monero and Zcash from 10 July 2027
Regulation (EU) 2024/1624 stops regulated crypto firms in the EU from handling privacy coins. Coins in your own wallet are a different matter.

What the rule says
- Regulation (EU) 2024/1624, known as the AMLR, was adopted on 31 May 2024.
- Article 79 stops credit institutions, financial institutions and crypto-asset service providers from keeping anonymous crypto-asset accounts, or accounts that allow the anonymisation or increased obfuscation of transactions, including through anonymity-enhancing coins.
- Article 90 sets the date: the regulation applies from 10 July 2027.
What it covers, and what it does not
- It covers crypto exchanges, brokers, custodians and banks that are regulated in the EU. They may not keep XMR, ZEC or similar coins for clients from that date.
- It sets duties for these firms. It does not address coins people keep in their own wallets.
- It does not change how Monero or Zcash work. The networks run the same on 10 July 2027 as the day before.
What has changed already in Europe
Several exchanges dropped XMR for European clients before the rule applies. Every entry has its source on the tracker.

What you can do before July 2027
- Move XMR or ZEC from an exchange account to a wallet you control, and keep the seed offline. Monero wallet guide.
