    Before you swap

Pick a fee that fits the Bitcoin network at the moment you send. A low fee can leave your deposit waiting for its first confirmation, and a floating quote can change before the deposit confirms. Your BTC goes to an address controlled by our liquidity partner until your XMR is sent. A swap can be held for checks.

What you get for common amounts

Our quotes, not guarantees. Recorded 17 Sep 2026, 18:30 UTC. The payout fee is already taken off. It depends on the network and can change with the amount, and it takes a bigger share of small swaps. Fixed and floating quotes are separate offers, and either can be higher.

Why people swap Bitcoin to Monero

Your Bitcoin history is open to anyone

Every Bitcoin payment is stored in public, for good. Anyone can look up the balance and the payments of any Bitcoin address. Anyone you have paid, and anyone who has paid you, knows at least one of your addresses. So this is a safety question as much as a privacy one.

That record is the usual reason for this swap. People move part of their BTC into Monero, which by default hides who sent a payment, who got it and how much it was. Our Monero (XMR) coin page explains how that works.

The swap does not clean the Bitcoin side. Your deposit spends outputs that your wallet received earlier, and most payments also send change back to you. All of that stays on the Bitcoin chain. Our guide Is Monero traceable? shows what stays visible after a swap.

    Getting the deposit confirmed

Your wallet pays a fee for the size of the transaction, not for the amount. Our Bitcoin (BTC) coin page explains why a wallet full of small receives pays more. If the fee rate is below what the network is taking, the first confirmation can take much longer. With a floating quote, the rate is set once the deposit is confirmed, so a long wait gives the market more time to move.

Until it confirms, a Bitcoin payment is not final. Replace-By-Fee (BIP 125) lets a wallet replace a waiting payment with a version that pays a higher fee. Since Bitcoin Core 28.0, released in October 2024, its nodes accept such a replacement by default, even when the first version did not signal it. If you raise your fee this way, the new version has a new transaction ID. It must still pay the full amount to the deposit address of your order. Do not send a second payment instead.

    While your swap runs

The deposit address belongs to our liquidity partner, which keeps your BTC until the XMR goes out. Screening can also stop a swap for a while. The Risk and screening page tells you what a hold means and what to do. To go the other way later, see the Monero to Bitcoin swap.

    Sending BTC and receiving XMR

    Sending BTC (Bitcoin)

Send native BTC on the Bitcoin network, in one transaction, to the deposit address of your order. Bitcoin payments cannot be reversed, so check the address before you confirm. The fee depends on the transaction size, not the amount.

    • Choose a fee rate that fits the current demand for block space. With a low fee rate your deposit can wait a long time, and a floating quote can change while it waits.
    • If you send from an exchange account, add a refund address from a wallet you control. A refund to the address you sent from may not reach you.

    Receiving XMR (Monero)

Give a Monero address from a wallet you control. A subaddress starts with 8 and a standard address starts with 4. Both have 95 characters. Received XMR stays locked for 10 confirmations, about 20 minutes, before you can spend it.

    • Use a new subaddress for each swap. A fresh subaddress makes it hard for the sender to link your payouts to each other.
    • Your wallet finds the payout by scanning new blocks with your private view key. If the XMR does not show yet, let the wallet finish syncing. If you restored the wallet, check that its restore height is not later than your swap.

    BTC to XMR questions

Questions about Monero itself, such as legality and delistings, are answered in our Monero (XMR) coin guide

Can I swap Bitcoin to Monero without KYC or anonymously?

You need no account, no email and no ID to start a BTC to XMR swap, so there is no KYC step to start. That does not make you anonymous. Your Bitcoin payment stays on the public Bitcoin chain, deposits are screened, and some swaps are held for checks. Our Risk and screening page explains when.

Does the swap hide where my Bitcoin came from?

No. Your payment to the deposit address is a normal Bitcoin transaction. It shows which earlier outputs it spends, and it stays public for good. Monero's privacy applies to the XMR you get, not to the BTC you send.

Does the Bitcoin network fee depend on how much BTC I send?

No. Bitcoin fees follow the size of the signed transaction in bytes, not its value. If your wallet has to combine many small receives to reach the amount, the transaction gets larger and the fee goes up.

My BTC deposit has no confirmation yet. What can I do?

Look up the transaction in your wallet or on a block explorer. If the fee was too low, see Getting the deposit confirmed above for how to raise it without sending twice.

Can I send wrapped BTC or BTC on another network?

No. This page swaps native BTC on the Bitcoin network, and the deposit address is a Bitcoin address. Wrapped BTC tokens live on other networks and are backed by BTC held in custody. They are separate assets and cannot be sent to this address.

Can I split my BTC deposit into several transactions?

No. Each order accepts one deposit. Send the full amount in one transaction to the deposit address of that order. Several deposits need help from support, and a fixed rate is not kept.

How long does a BTC to XMR swap take?

Most of the wait is on the Bitcoin side. Blocks come about every 10 minutes on average, but the gap between blocks is random. Our partner credits the deposit after the confirmations it requires. Once the XMR arrives, your Monero wallet needs 10 confirmations before it can spend it. The order page shows each step.

Why did I get a different amount of XMR than the estimate?

With a floating quote, the final rate is set when the network has confirmed your deposit. A slow confirmation gives the market more time to move, so you can get a little more or a little less. A fixed quote keeps its rate if your deposit meets all of its conditions.
