    Before you swap

You move from a coin that no single party controls to a token that Tether issues and can freeze. Our liquidity partner holds your BTC at a deposit address it controls until the USDT is sent. On a floating quote, what you get in USDT tracks the market while your BTC deposit waits to confirm. A screening check can pause the swap as well.

Our quotes, not guarantees. Recorded 17 Sep 2026, 18:30 UTC. The payout fee is already taken off. It depends on the network and can change with the amount, and it takes a bigger share of small swaps. Fixed and floating quotes are separate offers, and either can be higher.

Why people swap Bitcoin to Tether on Tron

From BTC to a dollar token on Tron

The BTC price moves with the market. USDT is a token that Tether pegs 1 to 1 to the US dollar. Tether states that each token is backed 100% by its reserves. People convert BTC to USDT when they want a steadier balance without leaving crypto. Some do it ahead of a known expense. Others want a pause while they decide what comes next. This page does not tell you when to do either.

The network is a separate choice. USDT exists on many blockchains, and this page pays it out on Tron. That fits when your wallet, or the person you deal with, uses TRC-20. If you are not sure, first read which USDT network to use.

    Paying the deposit on-chain

The deposit must be a regular Bitcoin transaction. Lightning payments are settled off the blockchain, so a Lightning wallet works here only if it can also send on-chain. When you withdraw from an exchange, choose the Bitcoin network, not Lightning.

Until the deposit confirms, you still carry the price swings you want to leave. With a floating quote, the USDT figure follows the BTC price up to that point. Our Bitcoin (BTC) coin page explains how the fee rate affects the wait and what to do if a payment is stuck. A confirmed Bitcoin payment cannot be undone, so compare the full deposit address with your order before you send.

What you take on with USDT on Tron

This swap trades a coin with no issuer for a token with one. Under its terms, Tether can freeze USDT and blacklist an address that holds it, as set out on our Tether (USDT) coin page. The steady value also rests on Tether keeping its peg. Set that against the price swings you want to leave behind.

There was once another option. USDT used to run on Omni Layer, which is built on top of Bitcoin. Tether no longer issues USDT there, so a Bitcoin holder who wants USDT now receives it on another chain, such as Tron.

Until the payout, your BTC is in the partner’s hands, not yours. A hold for screening is possible too, and Risk and screening covers how one ends.

Sending BTC and receiving USDT (TRC-20)

    Sending BTC (Bitcoin)

Send native BTC on the Bitcoin network, in one transaction, to the deposit address of your order. Bitcoin payments cannot be reversed, so check the address before you confirm. The fee depends on the transaction size, not the amount.

    • Choose a fee rate that fits the current demand for block space. With a low fee rate your deposit can wait a long time, and a floating quote can change while it waits.
    • Use each deposit address once. Never send to the deposit address of an old order.

    Receiving USDT (TRC-20)

You receive USDT (TRC-20) at a Tron address that starts with T. Use an address from a wallet that shows Tron tokens. Tron transfers have no memo field, so none is needed. The sender pays the transfer cost, so you need no TRX to receive USDT. You will need TRX to send it later.

    • Do not give the USDT token contract address or an address that starts with 0x. Neither can receive USDT on Tron for you.
    • Add some TRX to the receiving address if you plan to move the USDT later. A new Tron address becomes active when it receives TRX or a TRC-10 token. USDT is a TRC-20 token, so send TRX to the address as well.

    BTC to USDT (TRC-20) questions

Why is the USDT paid out on Tron?

Tether issues USDT on many networks, and each version stays on its own network. This page pays out on Tron. Choose it if the app, wallet or person you deal with next takes TRC-20 USDT. The payout fee can differ by network, and this page shows the Tron one with its date.

Can I pay the BTC deposit from a Lightning wallet?

Only if that wallet can send a regular on-chain Bitcoin transaction. Lightning payments are settled off the blockchain, and the deposit address for this swap expects a Bitcoin transaction. When you withdraw from an exchange, pick the Bitcoin network, not Lightning.

Which address do I paste to receive the USDT?

A Tron address from a wallet that shows TRC-20 tokens. Tron addresses have 34 characters, and the first one is T. Do not paste a Bitcoin address, an Ethereum 0x address or the USDT token contract.

Can I get USDT on the Bitcoin blockchain instead?

Not from this swap. USDT once ran on Omni Layer, a software layer built on top of Bitcoin. Tether no longer issues USDT there and is no longer obligated to redeem it. Tron is still on Tether's list of supported blockchains.

Can I keep the USDT in the same wallet as my bitcoin?

Only if that wallet also supports Tron and TRC-20 tokens. The payout goes to a Tron address, which starts with T. A wallet that holds both coins gives you a separate Tron address for this. Your Bitcoin address cannot receive the USDT.

How do I get back from USDT on Tron to BTC later?

Start a new swap with USDT (TRC-20) as the coin you send and BTC as the coin you get. That deposit is a TRC-20 transfer, so the Tron address needs energy from staked TRX, or TRX for the network to burn.
