    Before you swap

Open the activity list in your Ethereum wallet before you send. An earlier transaction that is still pending holds up your deposit until it goes through. Our liquidity partner holds your deposit until your XMR is sent.

What you get for common amounts

Our quotes, not guarantees. Recorded 17 Sep 2026, 18:30 UTC. The payout fee is already taken off. It depends on the network and can change with the amount, and it takes a bigger share of small swaps. Fixed and floating quotes are separate offers, and either can be higher.

How to swap ETH to XMR

    1. Enter an amount of at least 0.004236 ETH and paste your XMR address on Monero.

    2. Send the exact amount in one transaction from Ethereum to the deposit address shown after you start.

    3. Ethereum adds a block about 12 seconds on average. Our partner decides how many confirmations to wait for, and the order page shows each step.

    4. Your XMR is sent to your address. Your wallet can spend it after 10 blocks.

Why people swap Ethereum to Monero

    One address, one public history

Ethereum keeps your ETH as a balance on an account. If you use one 0x address for ETH, tokens and app activity, all of it sits in one public history. An ENS name such as alice.eth can point to that address. Anyone who looks up the name can then find that history. Once part of the value is in XMR, its next moves happen on Monero, where payments are private by default. Our Monero (XMR) coin page explains where that protection stops.

The old record stays as it is. Your deposit is an ordinary transfer, and it joins your address’s history like any other. Keep your Monero address out of your ENS records as well. ENS can store addresses for other chains, and anyone can read them.

Why the deposit can wait in line

Each transaction from your address carries a nonce. This counter fixes its place in line. A transaction waits until every one with a lower nonce has gone through. So an old transfer with a fee that is too low can hold up your deposit. Open your wallet’s activity list before you start. If something is pending, you can speed it up with a replacement that uses the same nonce and a higher fee.

The fee can also cause a wait. Your wallet sets a max fee per unit of gas. A transaction can go into a block only while that max fee is at least the base fee. The base fee changes from block to block. If it climbs above your max fee, the deposit waits until it falls again. A floating quote keeps moving the whole time.

A plain ETH transfer uses the same amount of gas for any amount. So on a small swap, the fee is a larger share of what you send.

Changing your mind while it waits

The nonce also decides whether you can take a deposit back. While it is pending, a cancel is possible. In MetaMask, for example, a cancel is a 0 ETH transaction to your own address, with the same nonce and a higher fee. If your deposit goes into a block first, the cancel fails and the deposit counts for your order. So check the order page before you start a new swap.

Once the deposit is in, our liquidity partner holds your ETH until the XMR is sent. A swap can also be held for checks, and Risk and screening explains what a hold means.

    Sending ETH and receiving XMR

    Sending ETH (Ethereum)

Send ETH on Ethereum mainnet, in one transaction, to the deposit address of your order. Check the network in your wallet first. The same 0x address also exists on layer 2 networks, but those are different networks.

    • Keep extra ETH for gas. The fee is paid in ETH on top of the amount you send.
    • Copy the deposit address from your order page, never from your wallet history. Scam addresses can share the first and last characters with a real one, so check the full address. A final Ethereum transfer cannot be undone.

    Receiving XMR (Monero)

Give a Monero address from a wallet you control. A subaddress starts with 8 and a standard address starts with 4. Both have 95 characters. Received XMR stays locked for 10 confirmations, about 20 minutes, before you can spend it.

    • Use a new subaddress for each swap. A fresh subaddress makes it hard for the sender to link your payouts to each other.
    • You can scan for one transaction ID in your wallet. Through a remote node, this can show that ID to the node operator. A web explorer can only decode a payout if you enter your address and private view key, and that server then sees both.

    ETH to XMR questions

Questions about Monero itself, such as legality and delistings, are answered in our Monero (XMR) coin guide

My ENS name points to the address I send from. Does the swap change that?

No. The name still points to the same address, and the deposit stays in that address's public history. The XMR goes to a separate Monero wallet. ENS can store a Monero address too, but anyone can read a name's records, so adding one would link the name to that wallet in public.

My ETH deposit is still pending. What can I check?

Look for an earlier transaction from the same address that has not gone through. Transactions from one address run in nonce order, so the deposit waits until every lower nonce is used. You can speed up a stuck transaction by sending a replacement with the same nonce and a higher fee.

What happens if the base fee rises above the max fee my wallet set?

The transaction cannot go into a block while the base fee is higher than your max fee. It waits until the base fee drops, or until you replace it with a higher max fee. A floating quote can change during that wait.

Does sending more ETH cost more gas?

No. A plain ETH transfer uses the same amount of gas whatever the amount. Only the price per unit of gas changes, with demand for block space. So the fee takes a bigger share of a small swap.

Can I send ERC-20 tokens to the ETH deposit address?

No. This order takes ETH only. Tokens sent to its deposit address are not part of the swap, and getting them back is not guaranteed. Tokens on Ethereum, such as USDT, are separate choices in the swap form.

Can I cancel an ETH deposit that is still pending?

Only while it is still pending. A cancel replaces the deposit with a 0 ETH transaction to your own address that uses the same nonce and a higher fee. If the deposit is confirmed first, it cannot be reversed, and it counts for your order.
