    Before you swap

Do not swap all of your ETH. Moving USDC later costs gas, and gas on Ethereum is paid in ETH, so keep some next to the USDC. Send native ETH on Ethereum mainnet, not on a layer 2 network. Until the USDC is sent, the ETH waits at the deposit address of your order.

Why people swap Ethereum to USD Coin on Ethereum

From ether to a dollar token, on the same network

ETH is the native coin of Ethereum. It pays the gas for every transaction there, and its price moves with the market. USDC is a token that Circle issues on Ethereum and pegs to the US dollar. People make this swap to keep part of their ether at a steady dollar value without leaving Ethereum, or because the person or app they pay next asks for USDC.

This page does not tell you which one to hold. One difference matters before you start. Under its USDC terms, Circle can block an address and freeze the USDC held there. No one can freeze ETH at an address that way.

Keep some ETH after the swap

A USDC transfer is a call to the USDC token contract, and its gas is paid in ETH, never in USDC. An address that holds only USDC cannot move it. So do not swap all of your ether. Keep some at the address that will hold the USDC. Our Ethereum (ETH) coin page explains how gas works.

    Sending the ETH

Send native ETH on Ethereum mainnet, from a regular wallet, in one transaction. A layer 2 network shows the same 0x address, but it is a separate network, and ETH sent there does not reach this deposit. Deposits sent from smart contracts are not processed automatically. If your ETH is on an exchange account, withdraw it to your own wallet first, because the swap form asks for the address you send from.

    Where the USDC goes

The USDC can go to the same 0x address that sends the ETH, where the ether you kept already waits for gas. Both transfers are public on Ethereum, so one address links them. A new address keeps them apart, but it needs ETH of its own. If the USDC shows on Etherscan but not in your wallet, add the token with the contract Circle lists for Ethereum.

Between the deposit and the payout, your ETH is no longer in your wallet. It waits at the deposit address of your order until the USDC is sent. On a floating quote, the USDC amount is set only once your deposit confirms. If a swap cannot finish, the refund is ETH, and it goes to the Ethereum address the ETH came from.

Sending ETH and receiving USDC (ERC-20)

    Sending ETH (Ethereum)

Send ETH on Ethereum mainnet, in one transaction, to the deposit address of your order. Check the network in your wallet first. The same 0x address also exists on layer 2 networks, but those are different networks.

    • Choose Ethereum mainnet in your wallet or exchange. Do not pick a layer 2 network, even if the address looks the same.
    • Send a plain transfer from a regular wallet. Deposits sent from smart contracts, including batched transfers, are not processed automatically.

    Receiving USDC (ERC-20)

You receive USDC at an Ethereum address that starts with 0x and has 42 characters. It arrives as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum mainnet. You need no ETH to receive it, but you will need ETH to send it later.

    • If the payout shows on Etherscan but not in your wallet, add USDC to the token list with the contract Circle publishes.
    • Add some ETH to the address if you plan to move the USDC later. Gas is paid in ETH, not in USDC.

    ETH to USDC (ERC-20) questions

How do I swap ETH to USDC?

Choose ETH as the coin you send and USDC (ERC-20) as the coin you get. Enter the 0x address that should get the USDC and the 0x address you send from. Then send native ETH on Ethereum mainnet to the deposit address on your order page, from a regular wallet and in one transaction. The USDC is sent once your deposit is credited.

Can I swap ETH to USDC without KYC?

Yes. You can start this swap with no account, no email and no ID. With no profile to sign in to, the link to your order page is how you get back to your swap, so save it when the order opens.

Should I swap all of my ETH?

No. Sending USDC is an ERC-20 token transfer, and its gas is paid in ETH. An address that holds USDC but no ETH cannot move it. Keep some ETH at the same address, or swap only part of your balance.

Can the USDC go to the same address that sends the ETH?

Yes. ETH and USDC on Ethereum use the same 0x address, and that address already holds the ETH you kept for gas. Both transfers are public, so one address links them. A new address keeps them apart, but it needs ETH of its own before it can move the USDC.

Is the payout USDC on Ethereum or on a layer 2 network?

On Ethereum mainnet, as an ERC-20 token. USDC on Base, Arbitrum, Solana or another network is a separate balance. If the USDC does not show, switch your wallet to Ethereum mainnet and look up the address on Etherscan.

The USDC is on Etherscan but not in my wallet. Why?

Your wallet may not list the token yet. Add USDC with the contract Circle publishes for Ethereum, 0xA0b86991c6218b36c1d19D4a2e9Eb0cE3606eB48. A token from any other contract that calls itself USDC is not USDC.

How long does an ETH to USDC swap take?

Both sides are on Ethereum. A new block can come every 12 seconds, and a block is final after about 15 minutes. Your deposit is credited after enough confirmations, and the USDC goes out after that. Your order page shows each step.

Is the USDC amount fixed when I start the order?

Only on a fixed quote, and only for the exact amount shown, sent before the deadline on your order page. On a floating quote, the USDC amount follows the market until your deposit confirms. The payout fee in USDC is shown before you swap.
