The most direct way to get Zcash (ZEC) without KYC is to swap a coin you already hold, such as BTC, XMR or USDT, and receive the ZEC in a wallet you control. Then move it into your shielded balance. Mining, earning ZEC and trading with a person are the other routes.

KYC means “know your customer”, the ID upload many platforms ask for first. Our guide crypto exchange without KYC explains what it means here. HiddenSwap is crypto to crypto only, with no card or bank payments.

In Zcash, privacy is a choice. Transparent addresses work like Bitcoin addresses, and their amounts are public. Shielded addresses keep your payments private.

Before you start: a Zcash wallet of your own

Every route ends at a Zcash address, so start there.

  • Pick a wallet that is shielded by default. The official Zcash site recommends a wallet that is shielded by default. ZecHub, a community education site, keeps a list that shows which pools each wallet supports.
  • Make sure it is ready for Ironwood. This upgrade added a new shielded pool on 28 July 2026, and the official upgrade page tells users to update their Zcash apps. An older wallet may not show a payment that lands in the new pool.
  • Make sure it can receive at a transparent address. You will most likely give a t1 address, then shield the coins.
  • Write down the seed phrase. ZIP 315, a draft guide for Zcash wallets, says a new BIP 39 phrase needs 24 words. Anyone who sees it can spend your ZEC.

Transparent addresses start with t1 or t3 and have 35 characters. Sapling shielded addresses start with zs1 and have 78. Unified addresses start with u1 and can hold several receivers in one string.

Swap BTC, XMR or USDT for ZEC

On HiddenSwap there is no account, no email and no ID upload. You get an order ID, and that is your only key to the swap. Our Zcash (ZEC) exchange page covers the address types and shielded pools in more detail.

  1. Choose the coin you send and ZEC as the coin you get. The swap box shows the limits and the amount you get first.
  2. Paste your Zcash payout address. The next section says which type to use.
  3. Add a refund address from a wallet you control. Without one, a refund goes to the address you sent from, which may not reach you if that is an exchange account. If you send XMR, always add one: a Monero payment does not show the address it came from, so a refund has nowhere else to go. See refunds.
  4. Choose a floating rate, or a fixed rate if the pair offers one. A floating quote can change before your deposit confirms.
  5. Send the exact amount to the deposit address in one transaction, and save your order ID.
  6. Follow the order page until the ZEC arrives.

Your deposit is out of your hands from the moment you send it until your ZEC goes out. HiddenSwap is an anonymous crypto exchange, so the swap itself needs no account, no email and no ID. A payout to a t1 address shows on the Zcash chain, so for the strongest privacy, shield it soon after it arrives.

Which coin to send

Bitcoin. New blocks come about every 10 minutes on average, and a confirmation can take longer. Bitcoin payments stay visible on the Bitcoin chain, so send from a wallet you control. Our Bitcoin to Zcash swap page covers this route and which payout address keeps your ZEC private.

Monero. Monero hides the sender, the receiver and the amount of every transaction by default, so your deposit is private on the Monero chain. That makes XMR the most private coin to start from. See our Monero (XMR) exchange page.

USDT. Choose the network your USDT is on, Tron (TRC-20) or Ethereum (ERC-20). On Tron, a token transfer uses energy, which you get by staking TRX, or the network burns TRX from your balance. On Ethereum, you pay gas in ETH. Our Tether (USDT) coin page and our guide to USDT TRC-20 vs ERC-20 explain both.

The privacy of your ZEC depends on the Zcash address you give, not on the coin you send.

Which payout address to give

  • A new t1 address from your own wallet is the safe choice. Transparent addresses (t1 or t3) pass the swap form’s address check. A t3 address is a multisignature script address, so most people use t1. Keep the new address for this payout alone. A t1 payout shows on the chain like a Bitcoin payment, so shield it soon after it arrives.
  • Sapling (zs1) and unified (u1) addresses are not checked yet. We have not yet checked whether the form accepts them, and it tells you if it cannot use an address. If it accepts one, your address stays hidden.
  • A unified address may hold a transparent receiver. ZIP 316 says a sender must use the most preferred receiver it supports, and shielded receivers rank first. So a sender that can only pay transparent addresses will use the transparent receiver if your address has one.
  • Skip tex1 addresses. A TEX address passes the form’s check, but ZIP 320 says it is meant to receive only ZEC paid from transparent funds. We have not confirmed that a payout to a TEX address goes through. Give a t1 address instead.
  • Never give a zc address. Sprout addresses are retired and cannot receive ZEC.

Shield the ZEC after it arrives

Moving ZEC from a transparent address into your shielded balance is called shielding. ZIP 315 recommends holding funds shielded for the long term. It says wallets should shield transparent funds by default, and must let you turn that off.

  1. Let your wallet finish syncing, so it shows the payout.
  2. If your wallet shields on its own, wait for it. The payout may show as pending until then.
  3. If it does not, start the shielding transaction and confirm it. A wallet used with a hardware device cannot shield on its own.
  4. Shield the coins of one transparent address at a time.

Shielding keeps your next payments private: payments between shielded addresses hide the sender, the receiver and the amount. The amount you shield shows on the chain, so shield it once and keep it shielded. A shielding transaction spends from your transparent address, so never shield from several transparent addresses in one transaction, because that ties them to each other.

Then keep the ZEC shielded. A payment between two shielded addresses hides the sender, the receiver and the amount. Our guide Zcash vs Monero explains how to keep each coin private.

Fees and timing

Fees. The amount the swap box shows already has every fee taken off. The exchange spread and our fee are inside the rate. A payout fee covers the blockchain fee for sending your ZEC, and it is taken from the ZEC you get. Our fees page explains how the amount is built. Your wallet pays its own network fee to send the deposit. Shielding is a separate Zcash transaction with its own fee. Under ZIP 317, that fee grows with the number of inputs and outputs, not with the amount.

Timing. Most of the wait is the confirmation time of the coin you send. The order page shows when your deposit is credited. Zcash blocks target 75 seconds. ZIP 315 recommends that wallets let you spend ZEC received from others after 10 confirmations, about 13 minutes at that target. Shielding early does not make the coins spendable sooner.

Other ways people get ZEC

Mining

Zcash uses proof of work with the Equihash algorithm. ZecHub’s mining guide says specialized machines (ASICs) are far more efficient than graphics cards in 2026, and that solo mining is not recommended for most people. It suggests a pool, which shares out rewards and takes a fee. If the pool pays a transparent address, shield each payout. Hardware and power cost money, and mining may not cover them.

Earning ZEC

You can ask to be paid in ZEC for things you make or work you do. Give the payer a shielded address if their wallet can pay it. If not, give a new t1 address and shield the coins later. To ask for a payment, you can send a payment request link or QR code. ZIP 321 sets its format: it carries your address, the amount and a short message, and a memo only when the address is shielded. A t1 address cannot carry a memo.

Zcash Community Grants gets 8% of the new coins in each block until the next halving, set for block 4,406,400. It supports teams that work on Zcash. Anyone can apply, and funding is not guaranteed.

Trading with a person

Some people get ZEC from someone they know. Ask them to pay a shielded address if they can. Nobody can reverse a mistake if the other side does not deliver, and the other person may learn who you are, so start small. HiddenSwap does not arrange trades between people.

Trade-offs at a glance

Route What you need How long it takes Privacy notes Main downsides
Swap on HiddenSwap BTC, XMR or USDT and a Zcash wallet Mostly the confirmation time of the coin you send, then 10 Zcash confirmations Anonymous: no account, email or ID. Shield a t1 payout for the strongest privacy Your deposit leaves your control until the ZEC is sent. A floating quote can move
Mining ASIC hardware, power and usually a pool Regular pool payouts. Solo mining can take very long The pool knows your payout address Hardware, power and pool fees
Earning ZEC Work or goods people will pay for in ZEC Depends on your customers Private when the payer can pay a shielded address Slow to build up
Trading with a person Someone you trust As fast as you both agree The other person may learn who you are No way to reverse a mistake

Mistakes to avoid

  • A tex1 or zc payout address. Use a new t1 address.
  • Reusing an old transparent address. Its history is public, and the payout joins it.
  • USDT on the wrong network. Coins sent the wrong way can be lost, or recovered only for a fee.
  • A wallet that is not ready for Ironwood. Transactions made under the old rules are no longer valid.
  • Looking for the payout before your wallet has synced. A wallet shows ZEC as spendable only after it has synced.

Quick answers

Where can I get Zcash without KYC? Swap a coin you already hold for ZEC on a swap service such as HiddenSwap, with no account and no ID. You can also mine ZEC, earn it for your work, or trade with a person you trust. Every route ends at a Zcash address in your own wallet.

Can I get ZEC here if I hold no crypto? No. HiddenSwap is crypto to crypto only. You need a coin to send first.

Will the ZEC I get be private? Yes, from the moment it is shielded: payments between shielded addresses hide the sender, the receiver and the amount. Shield a t1 payout soon after it arrives.

How do I swap ZEC back to Bitcoin? Use the Zcash to Bitcoin swap. It starts with which Zcash balance should pay the deposit.
