An exchange that delists Monero (XMR) stops trading it and later closes withdrawals. Coins still on your account after the last day are usually converted to another coin. This guide explains what each step means, lists the recent deadlines, and shows how to move your XMR to a wallet you control in time.

What a delisting means for your XMR

A delisting is not one event. It is a series of dates, and each one takes away something you could do before.

  1. Deposits stop. New XMR sent to your exchange deposit address may not be credited. Stop sending to it at once.
  2. Trading stops. The XMR pairs close. Open orders are usually cancelled. From now on the account is withdraw only for XMR.
  3. Withdrawals close. This is the date that matters most. Until then you can still send your XMR to your own wallet.
  4. Leftover coins are converted. After the last withdrawal day, the exchange converts your remaining XMR on your behalf and credits another coin, such as BTC or USDC. It picks the rate and the time, not you.

A delisting changes where you can trade XMR. It does not change the Monero network. XMR in your own wallet works the same way it did before.

Recent delisting deadlines

The table lists delistings we could check against the exchange’s own notice. The dates are from those notices. Our Monero delisting tracker keeps the full dated list, with more venues and sources.

Binance first set 20 May 2024 as the last day to withdraw, and a later notice kept withdrawals open until 1 September 2024. Its USDC rate was the average price from 2 September 2024 to 1 March 2025.

More changes are dated already. The EU regulation 2024/1624 (AMLR) stops regulated firms in the EU, such as exchanges, from holding privacy coins for clients from 10 July 2027. It covers those firms, not the wallet on your own device. Our page on the EU privacy coin ban in 2027 counts down to that date and explains what it covers.

Step 1: set up a Monero wallet

You need a wallet where you hold the keys. Our Monero wallet guide explains the choices in detail. The short version:

  • Get a wallet from the project’s own website. The official GUI and CLI wallets come from getmonero.org.
  • Write the seed words on paper, in order, and keep them offline. Anyone with the seed controls your XMR.
  • Write down the restore height too. It tells a restored wallet where to start looking for payments.
  • Let the wallet sync, then create a new subaddress for the withdrawal. It starts with 8.

Step 2: send a small test withdrawal

Do not start with your whole balance.

  1. Paste the subaddress into the exchange’s XMR withdrawal form. Compare the first and last characters with your wallet.
  2. Withdraw a small amount.
  3. Wait until the payment shows in your wallet. New XMR unlocks after 10 confirmations, about 20 minutes.

If the payment does not show, check that the wallet has finished syncing and that its restore height is older than the withdrawal. Our wallet guide has the full list of checks.

Step 3: withdraw everything

Once the test has arrived, withdraw the rest. Some points to check:

  • Withdraw well before the last day. A problem found on the last day may leave no time to fix it.
  • Leave room for the fee. The exchange takes its withdrawal fee from your balance. A small remainder may be too little to withdraw and will be converted.
  • Check your withdrawal limit. If your account has a daily limit, plan the days you need.
  • Keep the exchange’s notice. It has the dates for your account.

When the XMR is in your wallet, it is yours to hold, spend or swap. No exchange can change it.

If your coins were already converted

If you missed the deadline, your XMR is gone from the account and another coin is in its place: BTC after the Kraken delistings in Europe, USDC after the Binance delisting. Check the exchange’s notice for the exact coin and date.

To get back into XMR, withdraw the new coin to a wallet you control and swap it for XMR. For Bitcoin, use our Bitcoin to Monero swap. If you hold USDT on Tron, use the USDT (TRC-20) to Monero swap. USDC is a different token, so check which coins the swap box lists before you send anything.

Swap XMR to BTC or USDT with no account

Maybe you do not want to hold XMR at all. You can swap it on HiddenSwap with no account and no email.

Withdraw your XMR to your own wallet first and swap from there. Always add a refund address from your own wallet: a Monero payment does not show the address it came from, so a refund has nowhere else to go. A floating quote can change before your deposit confirms, and the swap box shows the current amount and limits. Our Monero coin page explains address types and how Monero keeps payments private.

If you also hold Zcash

Several of the delistings above removed ZEC too. The steps are the same: set up a wallet, test, withdraw everything before the deadline. Two things differ.

  • Withdraw to a transparent address you control. Many exchanges can only pay a transparent address, which starts with t1. ZIP 320 describes the tex1 format that some exchanges use for deposits. Give a t1 address unless the exchange says it pays shielded addresses.
  • Shield the coins after they arrive. A t1 balance is public, like a Bitcoin address. ZIP 315 recommends holding funds shielded. Our guide on how to shield Zcash shows how, and which pools are open after the Ironwood upgrade.

To leave ZEC, the Zcash to Bitcoin swap works with no account. Our Zcash coin page explains its address types.

Quick answers

Can the exchange take my XMR? It cannot take coins you have withdrawn. Coins left on the account after the deadline are converted, as the table shows.

Is holding XMR in my own wallet affected? No delisting in the table covers wallets on your own device.

What if my exchange is not on this list? Read its notice for the four dates above: deposits, trading, withdrawals and conversion. Then follow the same steps. Our delisting tracker adds new notices as they appear.
