Before you swap
Sending the USDT deposit from Tron uses energy. It comes from staked TRX, from energy delegated to you, or from burning TRX. The payout reaches your Ethereum address even if that address holds no ETH, but moving the USDT later takes ETH for gas. The ERC-20 payout goes out after the Tron deposit is credited. A floating quote is not fixed until the deposit confirms.

How to move USDT from Tron to Ethereum
Enter an amount and paste your USDT address on Ethereum. At our last check the minimum was 27.4692 USDT (TRC-20). The swap box shows the live minimum.
Send the exact amount in one transaction from Tron to the deposit address shown after you start. Sending from your own wallet? Keep some TRX in it to pay the Tron network fee.
Tron adds a block about 3 seconds on average. How many confirmations are needed depends on the coin, and the order page shows each step.
Your USDT is sent to your address.

Why people move USDT from Tron to Ethereum
When Ethereum is the better home for USDT
An Ethereum app can only work with tokens that live on Ethereum. It cannot see a TRC-20 balance at all. The same limit applies when a wallet, or a person you pay, accepts only ERC-20. Others want one Ethereum address for all their tokens, so the USDT joins the rest there.
Count the running cost before you pick this direction. On Ethereum, every later transfer or app action pays gas in ETH, and the price climbs when the network is busy. If you only plan to hold the USDT, or to pay someone who uses Tron, the move may not help you. Our TRC-20 and ERC-20 comparison sets out the trade-offs.
Getting the deposit out of your Tron wallet
A Tron wallet can show a USDT balance and still refuse to send it. The usual cause is energy, which our Tether (USDT) coin page explains. A less obvious one is activation.
Tron activates an address when TRX or a TRC-10 token is sent to it. Receiving USDT does not count. So an address that has only ever received USDT may not be active yet, and until it is, it cannot be used on the network.
One step fixes both. Send some TRX to the address before you open the order. The TRX activates the address and can be burned to pay for energy. Then send the USDT deposit.
Receiving on Ethereum
Your payout address starts with 0x. The same address can exist on other EVM networks, but the payout goes out on Ethereum, so set your wallet to Ethereum when you look for it. Give a regular wallet address, never a token or app contract. A smart contract wallet works only if it is also deployed on Ethereum.
The USDT arrives without any ETH, and it stays where it landed until you add ETH to that address.
Your USDT leaves Tron first, and the Ethereum payout follows once that deposit is credited. A floating quote can still change while the Tron deposit confirms.
Sending USDT (TRC-20) and receiving USDT (ERC-20)
Sending USDT (TRC-20)
Send USDT on the Tron network only. Your wallet or exchange must show Tron or TRC-20 as the network. The sending address also needs TRX, because Tron charges for token transfers in energy and bandwidth, not in USDT.
- Check the deposit address before you confirm. A Tron address has 34 characters and starts with T. Compare the full address with the one on your order page, not only the first and last characters.
- Send only to the deposit address shown for your swap. Never send to the USDT token contract, TR7NHqjeKQxGTCi8q8ZY4pL8otSzgjLj6t. It is a contract, not a wallet. Tokens sent to a contract that cannot handle them can be lost.
Receiving USDT (ERC-20)
You receive USDT (ERC-20) at an Ethereum address that starts with 0x. Use a regular wallet address that you control. Ethereum transfers have no memo field, so none is needed. To move the USDT later, that wallet will need ETH for gas.
- A wallet shows the same 0x address on other EVM networks, but the balances are separate. When you look for the USDT, make sure your wallet is set to Ethereum mainnet.
- Keep some ETH in the wallet if you plan to move the USDT later. Without ETH, the wallet cannot pay gas.

Avoid these mistakes
- A TRC-20 transfer, such as a USDT transfer, is a smart contract call. It uses energy and bandwidth. When your staked or delegated resources and the free bandwidth quota do not cover the cost, the network burns TRX from the sending address. Keep some TRX in the address you send from.
- Energy has no free quota. You get it by staking TRX, or another account can delegate it to you. An address with USDT but no TRX and no energy cannot pay for a token transfer.
- A Tron address has 34 characters and starts with T. An address that starts with 0x belongs to Ethereum or another EVM network. Do not use it for a Tron transfer.
- The network only recognizes a new Tron address after it is activated. A transfer of TRX or a TRC-10 token activates it. Add TRX to a new address before you try to send tokens from it.
USDT (TRC-20) to USDT (ERC-20) questions
What if my Tron address only ever received USDT?
It may not be activated. Tron activates an address when TRX or a TRC-10 token is sent to it, and receiving USDT does not do this. An address must be activated before it can be used on the network. Send some TRX to it first. That TRX can also be burned to pay for the deposit.
Should I move USDT to Ethereum if I only plan to hold it?
It may not help you. Every later transfer or app action on Ethereum pays gas in ETH. The move makes sense when an Ethereum app, a wallet or a person you pay needs USDT on Ethereum.
Can I give an address I use on another EVM network?
Yes, if it is a regular wallet address. A wallet made from one recovery phrase has the same address on Ethereum and on other EVM networks. The payout goes out on Ethereum only, so set your wallet to Ethereum to see it. A smart contract wallet is different. It is run by code, not by a key, so use its address only if that wallet is also deployed on Ethereum.
Is the ERC-20 USDT I get a wrapped or bridged copy?
No. The payout is USDT from the Ethereum contract that Tether lists on its supported protocols page. Open the payout on Etherscan after it arrives to see that contract.
Can I use the USDT in an Ethereum app right after it arrives?
Yes, once the payout is confirmed and your wallet holds ETH for gas. Have the USDT paid to your own wallet address, then connect that wallet to the app. Never enter an app or token contract address as the payout address. A contract that was not built to accept tokens can lock them away permanently.
Can I move the USDT back to Tron later?
Yes, with a new swap in the other direction, from USDT (ERC-20) to USDT (TRC-20). Keep some ETH next to the USDT, because that deposit pays Ethereum gas.
